- Fire classification
- Convective plume
- Country
- Spain
- Year
- 2024
The Mequinensa wildfire was initiated under a day of moderate W-NW winds and significantly low relative humidity levels (less than 10%). The left flank of the fire was constrained by the scar of an historic wildfire from 2023.The slope, orientation and wind alineation, with high fuel availability resulted in a high-intensity fire, predominantly in the head, which exceeded the extinction capacity. This energy has resulted in the formation of a dense and high plume, despite the absence of condensation. The following day, the fire was reactivated and spread with a strong sea breeze (from the S-SE), opening the FD of the first fire, as illustrated by the hourly perimeters.
