Overview
The science section of the Wildfire Data Portal will provide background information on fire-weather interactions to help understanding the data provided in the portal. This information will be developed throughout the EWED project and completed throughout 2025.
It will provide background knowledge on fire classification, on the science behind balloon soundings, and on the basics of conceptual modeling and 3D simulation of wildfire plumes under realistic atmospheric conditions. Many of these concepts will be explained in educational clips.

Our approach to studying fire-weather interactions focuses on accurately capturing and simulating these phenomena under real-world conditions. This Data Portal offers a unique and extensive dataset, featuring over 100 well-documented fire-atmosphere interaction cases from diverse locations worldwide. Each case is carefully categorized by fire type and accompanied by detailed visualizations of fire properties and corresponding atmospheric conditions. To complement the observational data, the portal also provides comprehensive modeling results, including specific numerical configurations, ensuring a robust framework for analysis and research.
